Creating a Brighter Future
In our classroom: all children can feel safe, supported and encouraged to take risks and learn new skills. We learn from our mistakes and build connections with other students, teachers, nature and our community.

The purpose of this website is to connect families to information about how to support their child's learning at home. I will share helpful links, information and websites to ensure we are all on the same page so your child will thrive this year.

Meet Mrs. Carey
I am so excited for this 2019-2020 school year here. My husband, Patrick, and I, along with our two children, moved to the UP a year ago from downstate. We are loving our life of adventure exploring these beautiful communities. Our children Dakota, 13, and Brooklynn, 8, are getting acclimated to their new school and adventures. My background in education includes a degree in Elementary Education, Childcare Management, master's degree in Early Childhood with Trauma Specialization and now I am working on my second master’s degree in Educational Leadership. I am a lifelong learner and feel strongly that when you know better you do better. I truly want the best for the children in my classroom, our school and community.

Importance of Play in the Classroom
The link above from the National Association for the Education of Young Children is a great resource for families to learn how important play is to our children especially our developmental kindergarten classroom. Take a minute to read through and learn why it is so important that the children play during our school day and when they get home with family.
Reading Skills at home
PBS has a great reading section on building skills at home. Check out some of the activities for on the go or at mealtime to encourage early reading skills.
